The Lok Sabha adjourned on Friday until Monday following persistent protests from Opposition members. The ruckus primarily arose over several pressing issues, including the NEET paper leak scandal and alleged theft related to Ram temple donations.

Despite the uproar, the House successfully passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without engaging in any debate. This occurrence underscores the turbulent atmosphere characterizing the current Monsoon session.

Papers listed for discussion and various Parliamentary committee reports saw tabling, but the key issue remained unaddressed as the Opposition vociferously demanded a response from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding police excesses during recent student protests over the NEET paper leak.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju countered, asserting that the Opposition could not dictate which minister should respond in the House. He defended the Home Minister’s commitment, stating that Shah attends Parliament daily and remains until late in the evening to ensure proper governance.

Shifting focus, Rijiju urged the protesting lawmakers to halt their ‘drama’ of disrupting proceedings and return to their seats to enable the House to function effectively.

Amid the ongoing protests, Speaker Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the session, appealed for cooperation. He firmly stated, “Please go to your seats. Please cooperate,” however, his pleas fell on deaf ears as the protests escalated.

As situations escalated, the Zero Hour was adjourned in under 16 minutes, leading to the House’s abrupt halt until its next meeting on Monday.

Before the adjournment, the Question Hour faced disruption yet again, with proceedings called off until noon due to the escalating dissent from the Opposition benches. The situation highlights the ongoing turmoil in the Monsoon session, which commenced on July 20, stemming from increasing tensions between the government and the Opposition.

The repeated standoffs have brought critical legislative processes to a standstill, raising concerns about the efficiency of the Lok Sabha amid significant national issues requiring attention.
