CM Omar Abdullah allocates ₹30.14 crore for welfare schemes benefiting construction workers, while expressing sorrow over a tragic bus accident involving Indian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, also the Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB), has sanctioned ₹30.14 crore for immediate financial aid to eligible beneficiaries through various welfare schemes. This decision aims to enhance the welfare of construction workers in the region and responds directly to pressing needs.
The allocation has reached all Assistant Labour Commissioners for prompt transfer into the bank accounts of registered construction workers. This assistance encompasses a wide range of essential welfare programs aimed at securing the well-being of laborers.
As per the Labour Department, the sanctioned aid includes support for education, disability assistance, aid for chronic illnesses, and marriage assistance, alongside meritorious awards for the children of registered workers. This multifaceted approach underscores the government’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable laborers.
During the 22nd meeting of JKBOCWWB in July, CM Abdullah emphasized the need for a broader definition of ‘construction worker’ to ensure comprehensive coverage for all vulnerable workers in the unorganized sector. His proactive stance aims to explore innovative policy mechanisms that expand welfare coverage and enhance financial security for laborers deployed in various development projects.
“Construction workers are the backbone of our infrastructure development and deserve comprehensive and timely support,” Abdullah stated. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving the rights and dignity of laborers through consistent welfare support and effective policy implementation.
In a related development, CM Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief over a devastating bus accident involving Indian Umrah pilgrims in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The unfortunate incident, which occurred early this morning, has drawn national attention and concern.
The Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the accident. Initial reports indicate that a bus carrying 46 Indian pilgrims collided with a tanker while en route from Mecca to Medina.
The tragic incident reportedly resulted in 45 pilgrims losing their lives, with only one survivor sustaining serious injuries. This catastrophe highlights the vulnerabilities faced by Indian citizens traveling abroad, particularly in difficult circumstances.
Local authorities have initiated investigations to understand the underlying factors contributing to this tragic event, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures for pilgrims abroad. CM Abdullah’s outpouring of sympathy fosters a sense of solidarity with the bereaved families as the nation mourns the significant loss.
Omar Abdullah’s dual approach of advocating for labor welfare and addressing the humanitarian crisis marks a significant moment in Jammu & Kashmir’s governance, indicating a responsible leadership responsive to its citizens’ needs on both domestic and international fronts.
