Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Baltal Route Due to Weather

The annual Amarnath Yatra faced disruption as officials announced a suspension of the pilgrimage from the Baltal route on Friday due to inclement weather and necessary repair work on the track. This decision aims to ensure the safety of the devotees and maintain the integrity of the pilgrimage route.

Yatra officials confirmed that the suspension also included the Pahalgam route, where repairs are underway to address deteriorated conditions. Heavy rainfall lashed the Baltal area late Thursday night, leading to a minor flash flood at one specific location.

Fortunately, officials reported no loss of life or property damage due to the flash floods. Despite this, they emphasized that the adverse weather conditions have warranted a halt on all pilgrim movement towards the holy cave shrine from the Baltal route.

Repair work is currently in progress, with teams deployed to ensure that the track is safe and navigable for pilgrims once conditions improve. The officials reaffirmed their commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all travelers participating in this revered pilgrimage.

The Amarnath Yatra commenced on July 3 and has attracted approximately 4.5 lakh devotees so far, all of whom have made the journey to the holy cave shrine that houses the naturally formed ice lingam. This year’s pilgrimage is more significant as it also coincides with the festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 28, and the temporary suspension comes as a disappointment to many devotees who seek to pay their respects at the sacred site this year.
